 What are periods ?

"Periods" refer to a menstrual cycle, also known as a woman's monthly period or menstruation. Menstruation is a natural process that occurs in females of reproductive age, usually starting during puberty and continuing until menopause.

The menstrual cycle is a complex series of hormonal changes that prepare the female body for potential pregnancy. It typically lasts around 28 days, although the length can vary from person to person. During this cycle, the uterus lining thickens in preparation for a fertilized egg. If pregnancy does not occur, the uterus sheds its lining, resulting in bleeding through the vagina. This bleeding is commonly referred to as a period or menstrual period.

The menstrual flow usually lasts between 3 and 7 days, during which a woman may experience symptoms such as abdominal cramps, bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, and fatigue. These symptoms are often referred to as premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and can vary in intensity from person to person.

The experience of periods can vary greatly, and it's important to respect and support individual experiences and needs related to menstruation.
